I'm up late because I'm confused

albadgerI heard on ABC radio as I was driving home that Joe Lieberman was going to retire at the end of his current term.
The ABC newscaster said "This deals a crushing blow to Democrats' hopes of holding on to the Senate."
And I thought, WTF? The seat is a 100% locked Dem hold. Nay, better, we'll have a real Democrat there instead of the craven GWB-kisser there now. How this "deals a crushing blow" is beyond me. And now I can't sleep because of it.
The three cups of Sumatra aren't helping either, but it's mostly the confusion.
