Today is the 20th birthday of Spark Plug the Devil Cat from Mars, my bestest buddy(see icon). I helped him celebrate by mopping the bathroom and switching his litter box back to sand, ending the 3-month pine pellet experiment. Later I will throw treats down the hall.

I'm wondering if I should reveal the simple but shocking secret to Sparky's longevity...

Is it the Siamese ancestry?

Susiebelle lived to be at least 21, and she was half Siamese, half tiger... points and stripes... quite pretty!

the ancestry could help, but I think his real secret is that I give him a dollop of coconut oil every other day, and it's supposed to be really really good for cats.

That's his secret. My secret is how he started liking coconut oil in the first place...

Sparky's a beautiful cat. I've had siamese - and almost ALL of them have been sealpoints, at that - for almost 30 years now.

In fact, my cat, Samantha is in the room with me, and she's eating.

She wants me to go to bed so that she can lay with me.

You are NEVER truly alone as long as there is a cat in the house.

True -- and certainly you never have to wonder when it's bedtime! I wish Sparky was as accurate at wake-up time... :)
