Two chores today -- first, taking my beloved Soul to the Concord Kia dealership for her slightly overdue minor-maintenance. Yes, there's a nail in the left front tire, and they fix that, so I happily drive back to Castro Valley, for my second chore, depositing my last paycheck to my bank account.

Said paycheck seems to be in my blue backpack, which I had left at the dealership waiting room.

Okay, second time I drive from Concord to Castro Valley, and bring the @#$^@#@! debit card into the bank, & ask them to transfer the contents into my checking account. The teller runs the card, and it comes back DECLINED. "Sorry," she says, "we can't even try again for another 24 hours."

Outwardly my normal smiling, gentle self, I go back to my car & call the debit card company's customer service line. It's 2AM in Bangalore but the young lady, whose fake WASPy name I don't recall, seems alert enough. Apparently the card was declined because, instead of a cash transfer, the teller had done a cash advance, and they have a limit on cash advances, well less than the paycheck value.

Tomorrow, three chores!

Tomorrow (Wednesday) was better than Tuesday. Lunch at the Outback, seeing Gravity on IMAX 3D, and I put off all my chores for today! Yay!

Also, I bought socks. But that's a joy, not a chore.

Okay, it's Wednesday evening- How did you like the movie? Have heard only good things about it.

I LOVE Gravity. This was second time I've seen it (saw it in "normal" non-IMAX 3D last Saturday). The IMAX 3D has amazing depth, which really comes into play in one particular scene -- the downside is that the IMAX process can "break up" if you tilt your head, while Real3D keeps its coherence.

But in any case, the movie is brilliant. Best new movie I've seen this year (but then I tend to see about 8 old movies for every new one!).

Thank you! Will make an effort to see it this weekend or next!

I sympathise. Only it is usually about leaving something at home and having to come back to get it. Like my wallet.
You got me thinking. I don't think I have received a paycheck in cash or cheque since the late 80s. Its been bank transfer since then.

Yeah, I've had direct deposit for the whole time I've been working with this company.

I suppose I understand why they couldn't do that this time -- but why not a check? The whole "pay with debit card" is such a screw-the-powerless, it pisses me off... less for my inconvenience than the actual expense that millions of other Americans are enduring...

Can't get too mad about the backpack, that was my fault. The froo-frah at the bank, I blame on many, many people. And then I do a little dance!

Or you could do what I did with Wells Fargo almost two years ago. Close all of the accounts and move to a credit union:)
