So, much of my decreased web presence this year (beyond the just not giving a s**t part) is from both my desktop PC and my laptop PC choosing to die this January. I had a Mac Mini in reserve, so that's something, and one would think that this would work better with my iPhone, but it actually is worse -- since I "upgraded" the phone to OS 3.0, I can't sync to the computer at all, and Apple's suggestion of resetting everything over and over again, well, just sounds unprofessional. "Get a new laptop," say friends, but I am deeply in debt and have no credit. I do find a "netbook" that I aquire for $150, but its keyboard is too small to allow touch-typing, and its arrow keys are where the shift key could be. I can write on it -- slowly -- but only in Don Marquis mode (btw I am NOT using the netbook at this moment).

But NaNo is NaNo. I've been waiting for this... I've got my arch of a plot, the characters mapped out, even figured out how to add my two co-workers who insist I write them into the thing. I get so inspired this afternoon at a web cafe, I'm not even bothered by the fact that the netbook can't seem to find the cafe's wifi, and I plough into writing. I'm actually inspired! My word count grows rapidly! My computer -- freezes...

I look behind me. The kid at the next table has unplugged my AC power cord and is plugging it back in. "I'm taking off," he explains, "and this plug is more secure. You won't get the power interruptions you get from the upper plug!" He's been to this cafe a lot.

And the computer is completely frozen by this. I do a hard reboot. I had been so inspired, I hadn't wanted to interrupt the writing for periodic saves. Heck, I thought I had auto-save set for every 5 minutes. I hadn't.

Word count for the day: 1675
Surviving word count for the day: 458.

How many times did I change tense in this post? My novel is past tense. Present-tense narration of long-form fiction is an excresence.
