albadger: (Sid Haig IS the Genie!)
Yesterday was a stretch-the-limits day -- my brother took me along with to a heavy-metal concert day of Wagnerian dimensions, with a lineup that included Disturbed, Avenged Sevenfold, Stone Sour, Halestorm, Airbourne, and the visually appealing but completely unlistenable Hell Yeah. Warning: some of these links may start playing music without asking you first, which seems rude to me.) This is not the sort of music I normally listen to, and I'd never heard of any of these bands, but I liked a number of them (Not Hell Yeah). Apparently, Airbourne is from the same small Australian town as the exchange student my brother's family hosted earlier this year. The lead singer of Halestorm was the only female performer in the hold lineup, and she made sure we knew it. Oh, my. I am rambling incoherently. This may be because I am trying to avoid describing the incident that capped the evening. Aw, hell, I'll do it.
We had great seats, Row A in the second tier of assigned seats, but they did attract odd spirits who edged quietly down from the lower-priced area after the Cricket Wireless Amphitheatre staff stopped giving a shit around 9:30pm. One such parked himself in Row B, took off his shirt, and danced awkwardly in place, waving his shirt in time to the Disturbed song, something about Taking Action and Solidarity and Standing Up for the Little Guy. I learned to ignore the slapping of the shirt on the back of my head. The song climaxed, the stage went dark, and Shirtless Dancer screamed out "WHITE POWER! YEAH!"

Which, judging by the video projections that accompanied the song, may not have been the reaction that the band would have preferred.

I would like to say "judging by the lyrics," but to be honest I couldn't understand a word anybody sang the whole time. A lot of people there seemed to have all the words memorized, and were able to sing along. As I am a Joan Sutherland fan, I cannot sniff.
In other news, Resident Evil: Afterlife is teh suck, but looks really good in 3-D.
